Sorry–my mind wandered back to Music Hall days, Music Hall being the Brit equivalent of Vaudeville, I think–or Burlesque, one of those before-my-time theatrical presentations that came before television etc.
A couple more Pet Peeves: I do hate television commercials that use family members, you know the ones–they’re usually locally produced, with a child saying “Won’t you come and buy a car (chair, mobile home, appliance) from my daddy?” One local one where I live shows two such children, one says a line, then the other one says a line…too, too, twee. There is a commercial for a car dealership in the Dallas area–an adult daughter tells us how to save “green” by seeing “green”–she could be improved by a session or two with a good elocution teacher!
Then there are the ones that copy previously successful, usually cute, commercials. The talking baby advertising stocks, now that was very imaginative, quite serious in its way, and they didn’t repeat the same “message” every time. Then came the copy-cats–the baby refusing the offer of cash; the acrobatic baby that is being ignored while the parents extol the virtues of a soft drink.
Some TV commercials that start off being captivating become annoying when they are repeated, without any change, time after time. The Geico Gecko is well done, always watchable, but the Geico Piggy–enough already! My own opinion of course. I remember complaining to my sister-in-law that the twins playing Michelle in “Full House” (when babies) were ugly–my sister-in-law was astounded, she thought they were so cute! Which just goes to show…
I really must get on with my writing–my work-in-progress I mean. If I could write the number of words every day that I do on this blog and answering emails, I might get something done!
I want to revise my first three chapters–some changes I want to make–and solidify the middle which involves the “parallel universe” which I’m trying to make mysterious, magical, and a wee bit scary, and which is where Evil exists, Good fights back–my protagonist shows what she is made of, and romance blossoms…
All for now.
Keep Calm and Carry On.
